Vibrations, hallucinations, OBE's
Wally was perplexed by a dream in which he was standing in a familiar room when suddenly all around him objects began to vibrate. As he looked around it seemed that everything he saw was slightly out of focus due to a very rapid vibration, although he doesn’t remember hearing any noise associated with it.
Darla had a similar dream in which she was lying down on her couch taking a nap and the arm of the chair began to vibrate as though there was an actual vibrator attached to it. She felt as though the vibration was going right through her head to the point that her teeth should be chattering. She tried to pull herself out of the dream but felt unable to move.
Margo was taking a nap and thought she had awakened although she felt a strange buzzy sound in her head. She looked across the room and saw a lighted apparition float across the room toward her. She remembered seeing the blinds closed and the room very dark. The apparition leaned down toward her causing her to scream and come fully awake. She was surprised to find out that she had not really been awake and that the blinds were open, the room was well lit and there was no apparition in the room.
These are just a few examples of dreams people often have in which they report vibrations, buzzing sounds, paralysis, hallucinations, pressure on your body as though you were weighted down and an inability to call out for help or to force yourself out of the dream state. These dreams can be frightening to some and fascinating to others.
While research continues, these states are generally referred to as dream or sleep paralysis by some or near OBE’s (out of body experiences) by others. All agree that these events do indeed occur, but the reason behind them varies.
Some think stress, changes in lifestyle, sleep deprivation, certain medications, only partially coming out of the REM state could be triggers for these events. Others believe that these are just natural steps toward an OBE.
If you find these events disturbing, speak to your doctor or do some research on how to eliminate the triggers in your life.
If you find these events intriguing, do some research on how to recognize and control the experience.
