Serena's Story
Serena’s husband came into the room with a package that had just been delivered to him. He said he heard about how to make lots of money buying and selling jewelry. He opened the box and it was full of earrings of all shapes, sizes and colors. Serena was upset because she didn’t think anyone would buy cheap earrings. He assured her that they were all sterling silver. He gave her three pair to go try on. She went into a bathroom that was like you might find in a park. It was all tile with stainless steel mirrors. Serena tried on the earrings which were clip-on not for pierced ears like hers. When she was trying on the third pair she started feeling overwhelmingly sleepy. She pulled off the earring which was like a large, light peach, shell carved leaf. It came apart. She tried to fix it, but felt more and more sleepy and had to go lay down. She staggered through the doorway and made her way into her bedroom where she laid down.
Immediately, she got pulled into a trance like sleep. She remembered fixating on something with a pattern to it trying desperately to hold onto some reality. The pattern shrunk down to a small circle of green and pink plaid. Everything else was blacked out. She felt a tremendous weight on her as if her body had gotten suddenly very, very heavy. There was a slight buzzing sound in her ears, her heart was racing and their was an almost erotic feeling in her pelvic area. She wanted to succumb to this feeling, but suddenly thought she might be in the clutches of Satan. That thought gave her cause for panic.
Serena heard her husband enter the room and called out to him, “Help me, help me”. She heard him getting something out of his drawer and tried to call out to him again. She was completely paralyzed. He left the room and Serena fought with all her might to get out of this state she was in. After some time and much effort, she was able to stagger to her feet and go into the adjoining room where her husband had just gone into the bathroom. She staggered over to a dresser to steady herself and knocked off a bunch more earrings that he had placed on top, She dropped to the floor and tried to gather them up.
When her husband came out of the bathroom, she asked why he didn’t help her when she called to him. He said she never called to him, she was sleeping peacefully and he didn’t want to bother her. She told him that she had left three of the earrings on a tray beneath the mirror in the community bathroom....he needed to go get them. Just then a woman came to the door and wanted a check for $2300.00 for the earrings. Serena was so upset because she knew he could never sell these earrings for enough money to make up for what he paid for them.
When Serena awoke in the morning, she was so happy to know that this had all been a dream, or had it? There were no earrings, but all the feelings related to the sleep state felt frighteningly real. What did happen?
It appears that Serena went into a state of “sleep paralysis.” This is not an uncommon event, but can be frightening. When in this state, the dreamer feels that they are paralyzed and believe they are making sounds or movements when in fact they are not. Sometimes these dreams are thought to be the prelude to an out of body experience. (See: Dream Scenes: Vibrations, hallucinations, OBE’s)
The rest of the dream regarding earrings is interesting. Serena might want to look at the things in her life that comes in pairs. Like, for instance, her and her husband. Is that relationship going well? Have they been experiencing money issues that need addressing? The metal mirror might also indicate that Serena is not seeing things too clearly right now. Her sleepiness could further be an indication that she is not wanting to deal with the issue at this time. I would advise Serena to at least ponder these suggestions. Only the dreamer can know for sure what clues are hidden in the dream, but this is a good place to start.
